OTC Medicines

Following a public consultation across Hertfordshire we are no longer able to routinely write prescriptions for medicines that you can buy yourself. It is estimated that this costs £6 million a year just for Hertfordshire. These items include:

• antifungal creams for athletes foot and thrush
• antihistamines and other hay fever remedies (such as nasal sprays and eye drops)
• treatment for head lice
• indigestion remedies, such as Gaviscon
• cold sore treatments
• painkillers including paracetamol, ibuprofen and co-codamol.

For more information, there are leaflets at the surgery plus information on our website. Some of you may already have received a leaflet with your repeat medications if they include one or more of these items.
